Tyres
Tyre fitting, balancing and pressure checks.
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Sunday closed.
When to book it in
The tread is close to the 1.6mm legal minimum. It applies across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the whole tyre.
Cuts, bulges or cracks in the sidewall.
Wear on one edge only, which can point to alignment or worn suspension parts.
A tyre that keeps losing pressure, which usually means a slow puncture.
Vibration at speed, which can mean a wheel needs balancing.
Worth knowing before you book
The size is printed on the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16 91V: width, profile, wheel size, load rating and speed rating. A replacement has to suit the car’s load and speed requirements as well as its size.
What the MOT does and does not cover
Tread depth is measured against the legal minimum and every sidewall is checked for cuts and bulges.
MOT manual section 5.2
The test measures what is left. It does not tell you the age of a tyre, whether the compound is still right for the car, or what a fresh set would cost.
