Hybrid & EV servicing
Servicing and diagnostic work on hybrid and electric cars.
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Sunday closed.
When to book it in
A service reminder is showing.
A hybrid system or charging warning on the dashboard.
Range has dropped noticeably.
Noise or rust on the brake discs. Regenerative braking means the discs do little work, so they can corrode.
Tyre wear that is faster than expected. Electric cars are heavy and deliver torque at once.
Worth knowing before you book
An electric car still has a 12 volt battery, brake fluid, coolant and a cabin filter that need attention on a schedule.
High-voltage cables are orange, and nobody should open or disturb them without the right procedure and equipment.
What the MOT does and does not cover
Electric cars are not exempt from MOT testing. It is a widely repeated mistake. The first test is due at three years and then annually, exactly as for a petrol car.
GOV.UK, getting an MOT
What changes is the content of the test, not whether you need one. There is no exhaust, so there is no emissions measurement and no smoke test.
DVSA MOT inspection manual
Brakes, tyres, steering, lamps, suspension and structure are all still inspected in the normal way on a battery electric vehicle.
DVSA MOT inspection manual
The one genuine electric exemption is narrow: electric goods vehicles first registered before 1 March 2015.
