Servicing
Interim and full services for cars, with the price written out before the work starts.
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Sunday closed.
When to book it in
The service interval in your handbook is close. Most makers give both a time and a mileage, and the first one reached counts.
A service reminder or warning light has come on.
You cannot find a record of the last service.
You bought the car used and the history is thin or missing.
Worth knowing before you book
There is no standard list behind the names interim and full. What each includes differs from garage to garage, so ask for the list.
Ask whether the parts are the maker’s own, the same quality from another maker, or a cheaper grade. The quote should say which.
What the MOT does and does not cover
An MOT does not check whether a car has been serviced. A car with a full service history and one with none can pass the same test on the same day.
GOV.UK, car parts checked at an MOT
The test does not assess engine internals, clutch, gearbox or oil condition. None of that is on the list.
DVSA MOT inspection manual
A service record is the only place a car’s maintenance history exists. The MOT cannot supply it.
