Clutch repair and replacement, for a clutch that slips, judders or will not pull away properly. The MOT does not test it.

When to book it in
The engine revs rise but the car does not speed up, especially uphill or under load.
Judder when pulling away.
The biting point has become very high or very low.
The pedal is heavy, or sticks to the floor.
Grinding, or difficulty selecting a gear.
A burning smell after a hill start.
Worth knowing before you book
A clutch wears with use. Stop-start traffic, towing and hill starts shorten its life, so there is no standard mileage.
On most cars the gearbox has to come out to reach the clutch, so labour is a large part of the cost.
What the MOT does and does not cover
The MOT does not check your clutch. GOV.UK says the test does not cover the condition of the engine, the clutch or the gearbox.

A clutch can be badly worn and slipping under load, and the car can pass with no comment made about it.
