When to book it in
Your certificate is about to run out. The expiry date is on the certificate, and GOV.UK shows it from the registration number.
You can test up to a month, minus a day, before the expiry date and keep the same renewal date.
Your last test listed advisories. They are not a fail, and they are the list of what to watch before the next one.
The test in brief
We are a DVSA-authorised MOT station. The station record is public and can be checked on the DVSA MOT tester service.
DVSA
Cars and light vans up to 3,000kg are Class 4. Goods vehicles from 3,000 to 3,500kg are Class 7. We test both.
DVSA vehicle classes
The MOT test is a roadworthiness inspection. It is not a service and it does not check the general mechanical condition of the vehicle.
GOV.UK, car parts checked at an MOT
A certificate is due three years after first registration, then every twelve months. There is no grace period and no extension.

Where this shows up in the MOT test
The test covers all six of these areas. Each is a separate section of the DVSA manual with its own reasons for rejection.
Brakes
Service brakes and the parking brake are checked for condition and for how well the car actually stops.
Manual section 1
Steering
Each joint is rocked by hand. Any free movement at the wheel is a defect, not a comfort setting.
Manual section 2
Lamps and reflectors
Headlamps, brake lights, indicators and reflectors are tested while the engine is running.
Manual section 4
Tyres and road wheels
Tread is measured against the legal minimum, and every sidewall is checked for cuts and bulges.
Manual section 5.2
Suspension
The car is lifted so each wheel can be rocked to expose play that is invisible when it is sat still.
Manual section 5.5
Body and structure
Structure, attachments and bodywork are inspected for corrosion and for whether anything is loose.
